What is Dermapen 4?

Dermapen 4 is a microneedling device: fine needles create thousands of tiny channels in the skin, and the skin responds by producing new collagen. After a course of treatments, the skin is smoother, pores are less noticeable and acne marks are softer.

How it works

The head of the device has a row of very fine needles that move quickly and evenly over the skin. The skin takes the microscopic channels they create as a sign that it needs to renew itself. Over the following weeks new collagen and elastin form, and the skin gradually becomes firmer and more even.

The needle depth is set for each part of the face. Where the skin is thin, around the eyes and on the forehead, the work is gentler, and on the cheeks, where acne marks often are, it can go deeper.

What can be added to Dermapen 4

The same microchannels are a route that lets products reach deeper than when they are simply applied to the skin. That is why Dermapen 4 is often combined:

  • with a PRX-T33 peel, for a fresher and more even complexion,
  • with V-Tech, ASCE or Dermaceuticals exosomes, which send the skin signals to renew itself and help it calm down faster.

What to add is agreed at the consultation, depending on what your skin needs most.

What the appointment looks like

First your face is cleansed thoroughly, and then an anaesthetic cream is applied, which stays on for twenty to thirty minutes. The treatment itself takes about half an hour. With the anaesthetic cream, most women feel only a light scratching and vibration, and a little more on the forehead and around the nose.

After the treatment the skin is red as after a day in the sun. The redness most often fades within one to three days. On the first day you do not wear makeup, and in the following days sun protection is a must.

How many treatments you need and when you see results

Your skin looks fresher a week after the first treatment. Collagen still forms gradually, so the biggest change shows one to two months after the last treatment in the course. For texture and pores, three to four treatments are usually done, and a few more for acne marks, about four weeks apart.

Autumn and winter are the right time for Dermapen, because there is less sun. We do not work over inflamed acne, so in that case the skin is calmed first.

How to prepare your skin

For a week before the treatment, avoid strong peels, retinol and sunbathing. If you are prone to cold sores, mention it at the consultation, because protection before the treatment is sometimes recommended. After the course, your skin needs only simple skincare: gentle cleansing, hydration and sun protection every day, in winter too.

Results depend on the condition of your skin.
