What is your first permanent makeup appointment like?
Your first permanent makeup appointment starts with choosing the shape and shade, and nothing is done until you agree that the shape suits you. For brows the appointment takes about two hours, and the touch up is booked for four to six weeks later.
Before the appointment
For a few days before the appointment, do not pluck or tint your brows, so we can see how they grow naturally. If you take medicines, are pregnant or breastfeeding, say so in advance, because in some situations the treatment is postponed. If you have had permanent makeup done elsewhere before, bring a photo or at least remember when it was done.
Choosing the shape and colour
This is the most important part of the appointment, and there is time for it. Kristina looks at the proportions of your face, the natural line of your brows and their asymmetry, because no face is completely symmetrical. The shape is first drawn in pencil directly on your brows, and you look at it in the mirror. It is adjusted until you say it is right.
The shade is chosen to match your skin tone and hair colour. The aim is for your brows to look like your own on a good day, not like a tattoo. Kristina has been doing permanent makeup for eight years and will tell you honestly if a shape or colour would not look good on you.
The treatment itself
The skin is cleansed and an anaesthetic cream is applied. The pigment is placed layer by layer, with frequent pauses to check the look together. With the powder brows technique, the brows get a soft, powdery look, as if filled in with shadow. For brows the appointment takes about two hours, including choosing the shape.
Lip micropigmentation, which brings back colour and a clearer contour, and eyeliner, a fine line along the lashes, are done in a similar way.
The first days after
Right after the treatment the colour is darker and stronger than it will be, and that is expected. The skin heals in about seven to ten days. During that time a thin crust forms, falls off on its own and should not be picked. For the first week avoid the sauna, the pool and strong sun, and follow the aftercare instructions you are given.
The touch up
While healing, the skin releases some of the pigment, and not evenly everywhere. That is why a touch up is done after four to six weeks: the colour is evened out and filled in, and only then is the result complete. After that, permanent makeup most often lasts one to three years, and when it starts to fade, a refresh is enough.
Results depend on the condition of your skin.
